Don't Mess Up My Tempo by EXO MV Review
Just take a moment to appreciate this art.
The Chinese Version which is another piece of art.
Now let's bring out some elements within the MV.
First, SEHUN'S LINES!!!!!
Second, EXO is back!!
Now to real stuff,
The MV is very similar to the overdose MV, but the opposite side of the red cube. Throughout the MV we see a red cube in the back. This could indicate that they all got stuck within the red cube. On the other end, we do see a small cafe/bar that could be a reference to the Universe MV or even the stage set up for the Elyxion tour. With the idea with them in the cube becomes a bit fuzzy when they all literally fizz out. From what I noticed, at the end, they all fizz out (like a television with bad connection) except for Junmyeon (Suho) and Kyungsoo (D.O). This could mean something, or just an edit decision.
In case you are new and need to know who is who, or you memorized them by the Ko Ko Bop hair colors, here you go.

Elements about their outfits
In the beginning, we have Kai wearing a crop top and suspenders. As the MV continues, he changes into a similar outfit to the Call Me Baby era. |
Call Me Baby era (2015) |
DMUMT era (2018) |
Kai does change into a bucket hat within the first few minutes after the crop top, but the iconic Call Me Baby vibe outfit coming back is a nice addition to the Ultimate Comeback of the Year.
However, Kai does change into a fitting suit (as seen in his profile picture) when he sits at his piano. Kai does seem to wear outfits that do not get in the way of his dancing. It is a quality about his outfits that has always prevailed in all of the comebacks.
Both Kai and Chen have brought the mullet back from last years comeback with Baekhyun to this years comeback. Obviously Kai's mullet is more visually brought out then Chen's mullet (as seen in his profile photo).
Also for some odd reason, I get huge George Michael's Careless Whisper vibes from Kai's look in the MV. This could be because of the mullet, the large head of hair he has, or even the black suit and white shirt he has on. The comparison between the two made me also wonder if the costume designers and production crew wanted this comeback to have a type of rebellion vibe that George Michael was able to obtain, and with Kai already having the mullet (and cosplaying as an iconic sex symbol before) they could have purposely wanted to give him a Careless Whisper outfit.
Now all of their outfits at the end represent bikers. These are the same outfits portrayed at the very beginning, allowing the viewers to get a nice full body look at their outfits. These outfits don't all portray rebellious bikers (Kai), however, they do give a nice vibe of colors. This is another point I was able to see; the fact that they all were wearing black with some type of color, except for Lay. He was wearing all black over his body. This could mean something, this could not, but it was just my observation. Although, Lay does have some type of red stripe on his jacket.
Chinese VS Korean Versions
In the Chinese version we see that it is actually Lay who drives in on the motorcycle in the beginning of both versions. The Chinese Version does give the viewers a better look at the dance for this song. It films in a more open version of the box, but still clearly portrays a white box behind the singers.
At the end of both MVs, you have Baekhyun walk back to the red cube with a white cube in his hand. This white cube is portrayed in a whiskey glass as ice, and is what D.O and Xiumin were building in the flower room.
Top: The cube made Middle: The cube in pieces on a chessboard. Looks like a game of chest. Bottom: Baekhyun ( or someone) holding a smaller version of the cube. |
What these mean in EXO theory is another story, but this is a blog about observations, not so much theories.
